When I rearranged my office recently my printer ended up about 8 feet from my computer and the cable was only 6 feet. USB cables were too expensive locally, close to thirty bucks for one long enough. So I ended up ordering a Belkin 16′ USB Cable for less than $8. Ok, they got me to order a book from my wish list to get above $25 for the free shipping. But that was a 16 foot cable and a book I’d eventually order for less than a what a [...] Read the rest »
The OS Quest Trail Log #16:
I decided it was time to move out of Adobe LightRoom (which I’d be running under a eval license key) and back into Aperture. I found LightRoom easier to use, especially to organize photos, but there’s no way I could justify the $299 price. Since I already have Aperture there’s really no price for which I could justify the purchase. I figured I’d export from LightRoom and import into Aperture. But I ran into problems exporting from LightRoom even though I told LightRoom to export the original files. I figured [...] Read the rest »
The OS Quest Trail Log #5
It was a big weekend here at the OS Quest Data Center so I figured I’d wait for the long weekend (made even longer with a vacation day on Friday) to end. With my switch to Comcast I have a little time with both DSL and Comcast since the DSL will run for another couple of weeks. Apple Patches – and Patches – and Patches
Apple released a boatload of patches at the end of July and another one today. I finally finished all my patching. I better finish this post quickly, before another patch arrives. So to get into it… I started on Thursday with Pro Application Support 4.0.1. Unaware of what was to follow I gave the patch its own post. Then the floodgates opened so we’ll combine the next four patches into one post. OS X Security Update 2007-007 Apple released OS X Security Update 2007-007 on the last day of July [...] Read the rest »
Apple Patches Quicktime, Airport and More
I was greeted by this screen on my Intel iMac today. The Quicktime update patches the “hack-a-mac” Quicktime vulnerability that was publicized on April 20th. It doesn’t really provide any detail but Apple has a support article on the patch. The Airport Extreme Update 2007-003 description is succinct… This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers and includes compatibility updates for certain third-party access points configured to use WPA™ or WPA2™ security. WPA and WPA2 are trademarks of the Wi-Fi Alliance. Both patches require a reboot and applied without [...] Read the rest »
