Apple released patches for several apps in the iLife ’08 Suite. iPhoto 7.1.4 is the only one that contains feature enhancements in addition to the typical “compatibility” and “stability updates”: This update contains new holiday greeting card and postcard themes for use with Apple print products. There’s also iMovie 7.1.4, iWeb 2.0.4, and a general iLife Support 8.3 update. All three contain the terse description: This update improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues. It is recommended… I applied the update to all my Macs without [...] Read the rest »
iLife Support 8.2 Released By Apple
Apple keeps the updates coming and released an update to iLife ’08 to coincide with the Aperture 2 release. It’s a small 2.7MB download through software update on my Intel MacBook or as a 9.7MB standalone download. I installed the update on my MacBook without incident. I don’t have Aperture 2 and Apple doesn’t say what this really fixes, but iPhoto and other apps seemed fine. Apple describes this update by saying… This update supports system software components shared by all iLife ’08 applications to improve their stability and performance. [...] Read the rest »
Apple Releases Three Updates
Apple released updates for iLife, iDVD and some 24″ iMacs. The only update I received through Software Update was the iLife Support update. iLife Support 8.1.1 is a 10.3MB download through Software Update in Intel Macs and a 6MB standalone download. According to Apple this address general compatibility issues and contains minor specifics. Nothing specific. iDVD 6.0.4 improves compatibility with Leopard. I didn’t get this update as it’s for an older version of iDVD. iMac MMX Update 1.0 is for late-2006 iMacs (I hate that Apple does models that way). This [...] Read the rest »

iPhoto 7.0.2 Released & Lesson Re-learned
Apple released another update to their still fresh iPhoto 7, bringing the version to 7.0.2. The official word on this is it “…addresses issues associated with publishing to .Mac Web Gallery, rebuilding thumbnails, and editing books. It also addresses a number of other minor issues.” It’s a 10MB download through software update or 8.8MB standalone download. I also found a solution to an annoyance that I had with iPhoto. It reminded me that Apple likes to bury actions in context menus. In previous versions of iPhoto when I printed a [...] Read the rest »
The OS Quest Trail Log #4
New Ground I spent my free computer time this week organizing my photos and moving them from iPhoto into Aperture. The one feature that has me into Aperture is the way it handles edits. The original photo is in Aperture once as a master and any number of edits can be made. Each edit is simply the settings that need to be applied to the master, not a copy of the photo. iPhoto has one edit per photo and the edit replaces the master for all actions (although the master [...] Read the rest »
The OS Quest Trail Log #2
It’s only been four days since my last log entry but I want to get on a weekly cycle with these and weekends seem to be the best time to do it. So here goes… Google Apps I continue to use Google Apps and like it. Really all I use it for is email, but it’s allowed me to consolidate all my email addresses into one mailbox for delivery. I finally got the hang of using search and labels (aka tags) rather than folders and it makes things much quicker [...] Read the rest »
Apple Updates Hardware and Software
Apple made their Mac announcements today. As with most Apple events it generated tons of speculation. What they did announce was: New Hardware Apple replaced their iMac line with new models. They dropped the 17″ iMac and replaced it with a 20″ low-end iMac. A 20″ iMac and a 24″ iMac are available at the mid-level with 2.4GHz processors. A 24″ iMac at the high-end that has a 2.4Ghz processor. Most of the reports I saw left this 4th iMac out but it’s at the Apple store (click the pic [...] Read the rest »
