Transmit 3.6.4 Released

Panic software release a minor update to my favorite FTP client, Transmit. The Transmit 3.6.4 change log contains just under two dozen items listed as fixes and changes. For me, it’s the changes to S3 that are most welcome. While the last update made it usable with Amazon S3 for me, it would still be annoying at times. This release is less annoying. The Amazon S3 related changes are: 1. Transmit no longer stalls the UI when deleting files in S32. No longer have to manually refresh to make deleted [...] Read the rest »

The OS Quest Trail Log #19: New Year Edition

Well, we just kicked off a new year, at least for those of us who use the Gregorian calendar. Despite the title this isn’t a predictions or resolutions post. Actually I think the first topic is more for me than for you. I’ve become hooked on posting to the site and I figure it’ll be easier to break the addiction if I write down that I’m breaking it. I’ll be posting less so I can spend more time working on projects and learning new stuff. I’ll post about the progress [...] Read the rest »

The OS Quest Trail Log #17: A Virtual Week

This week was almost all about Virtual Machines on the Quest. Parallels released a couple of beta updates and eventually the final production release this week. My biggest complaint about Parallels was that the Windows task bar appears in every space even when Parallels is assigned to one space. But the more I used Parallels the less this was a problem. Not because I didn’t mind the task bar, but because I’m not using coherence mode. I run my VMs one of two ways, either full screen in the Space [...] Read the rest »

Panic Software Releases Transmit 3.6.3

Panic Software released an update to my favorite FTP client, Transmit. It’s a 8.2MB download. It’s a zip file, unzip the file and copy transmit.app to the application directory to install or upgrade. The release notes contain four Leopard specific fixes, the most serious (at least for me) of which was the "Edit With" menu showing apps on Time Machine volumes. This explains why "Edit With" displayed each app a half dozen or more times. It’s back to listing each app just once. There were three fixes listed that were [...] Read the rest »

Ready For OS X 10.5 Leopard?

[Last updated: Nov. 1st] [Oct. 29th: Now includes a sentence about my experience when using the app. Keep in mind I did fresh installs of everything and restored data.] It’s time to start going through my apps and seeing which are ready for OS X 10.5 Leopard and which aren’t. I’ll start with my most used and favorite apps. I’ll start with the assumption that the Apple apps in iLife ’08 and iWork ’08 along with Aperture 1.5 will work with Leopard either in their current form or with updates [...] Read the rest »

10 Favorite Macs Apps (that I don’t use enough)

Yesterday I wrote about my 10 Most Used Mac Apps according to Wakoopa. I was a little surprised by some of the apps that showed up on the list and a few apps I really like didn’t show up in the top 10. So these are the apps I wished were on, or expected to show up in, the top 10 list. In reverse order this time. 10. Quicken for Mac (aff) – I wouldn’t call this a favorite. It came with my first Mini so I used it. I [...] Read the rest »

The OS Quest Trail Log #9

I spent the week dabbling in new software. Pixelmator is out of beta and available now so I looked at that. Still reminds me a lot of Photoshop Elements, lots of palettes. The so-called HUDs are really just transparent palettes. Both are nice but Acorn has more than I currently know how to use and the price is great ($40) so I decided to go with Acorn. Pixelmator is $59. I suspect they may keep leapfrogging each other in terms of features and ease of use and I doubt either [...] Read the rest »

Transmit 3.6 Upgrade

The upgrades continued this week with the release of Transmit 3.6 which has become my favorite FTP client, edging out Fetch. Transmit is from Panic Software. The update adds a feature I’ve wanted, one I didn’t know I wanted, and a bunch of other fixes. The Upgrade Panic changed the download to a zip file. To install just extract the zip which results in just transmit.app. Copy transmit.app to your applications directory, replacing the existing version if there is one. I did have to update my Automator scripts that used [...] Read the rest »

Scheduling Website Backups with Transmit

I’d been manually backing up my website whenever I did changes and I use the synchronize feature in Transmit to do it. Transmit is a FTP client for the Mac by Panic Software. Transmit remembers settings between sessions so it was easy enough to do this if the only synchronize I ever did was the web backup. Or if I trusted myself to reset things correctly before each session. Since the whole point of synchronize is to only copy/delete the changes it’s important to keep things the same. Plus it’s [...] Read the rest »
