Santa’s finished his deliveries and is tipping back a few. Time for me to wrap things up for the year and get ready for the next one. Not much has changed since the last trail log but I figured it was as good as time as any to wrap things up. There's power upgrades, wireless upgrades and home server changes in this trail log. Apple Patches – and Patches – and Patches
Apple released a boatload of patches at the end of July and another one today. I finally finished all my patching. I better finish this post quickly, before another patch arrives. So to get into it… I started on Thursday with Pro Application Support 4.0.1. Unaware of what was to follow I gave the patch its own post. Then the floodgates opened so we’ll combine the next four patches into one post. OS X Security Update 2007-007 Apple released OS X Security Update 2007-007 on the last day of July [...] Read the rest »
OS X 10.4.10 Wireless Issues Resolved
I finally got around to researching the wireless problem that surfaced after I applied the OS X 10.4.10 update. In short, every time the computer booted, or woke from sleep I’d have to reconfigure the wireless network. For wireless I use 802.11g with WPA for security. The solution was simple. I deleted the network from my preferred network list then re-added it. Since then it’s worked much better, almost perfect. Waking from sleep is problem free. But, booting up fresh sometimes takes several minutes to join the network. Since I [...] Read the rest »
More Issues With Apple OS X 10.4.10
Well, I’m having more issues with the OS X 10.4.10 update. Lucky for me all the problems are on my Intel Mac Mini which sees limited use. My iMac has avoided the issues, but more through luck than anything else. Apple released Audio Update 2007-001 that resolves this issue. It successfully fixed my Intel Mac Mini. Update 10.4.10 was also rev’d to version 1.1 so anyone getting the update in the future will not have the problem. My wireless problem remains. The Apple Support forums have a long thread about [...] Read the rest »
Wireless Returns
My replacement DSL Modem/Router/WAP arrived yesterday. Actually it arrived Friday but I wasn’t home so I didn’t get it until Saturday. I received the 2Wire 2701HG-B Gateway and ordered it directly from AT&T (my DSL provider). It contains the ADSL2+ broadband interface, four 10/100 Ethernet ports and 801.11b/g wireless support. My previous post discusses why I needed a new gateway. Setup was a breeze even though I kept waiting for a problem to pop up. I had expected to just go to a web interface and be able to configure [...] Read the rest »
Wireless Woes
Dilbert fans may remember Phil – The Prince of Insufficient Light, the ruler of heck. Phil hasn’t been mentioned in awhile and appeared to be missing. I found him. He’s here in my house tormenting me by causing frustrating but minor computer glitches. The latest occurred last night. I was watching TV, working on my laptop when the wireless went out. Not wanting to stop working I just dragged a network cable across the floor and went on working. I expected it to clear itself up. Foolish me. When I [...] Read the rest »
