OS X

This is just a quick summary of problems I found with Leopard so far. I’m still in the process of installing apps as I decided to do an Erase and Install. It will also include problems or potential problems found elsewhere that caught my eye as something that could affect me.

Apple released a tech note about a conflict between Time Machine and Aperture. This probably has to do with the way Aperture maintains a database of photos. I wonder if other non-Apple apps might have similar issues?

I’ve encountered a minor problem with mounting disk images in Finder.

  • When copying files in one finder window I can’t use another Finder window to unmount any disk images. I have to go into Disk Utility and unmount them. This is not a case of files in the disk image being in use. External drives can be unmounted and CDs can be ejected. Once the copy finishes the images can be unmounted.
  • I’ve had various display problems with the external drives listed under devices in the finder sidebar. After ejecting a drive the name will sometimes remain although the eject triangle is gone and it isn’t actually selected when I click on it. Sometimes an external drive will be listed twice although one is missing the eject triangle and can’t be selected.

Leopard Spaces – I had set my mouse button 4 to activate Spaces. This worked for awhile then stopped, brining up Expose instead. Expose was the previous setting. I checked and made sure Spaces was still assigned to button 4 and it was. I returned it to Expose then back to Spaces and it’s working again.
Parallels Desktop For Mac – When setting up a Parallels VM that would use my Boot Camp partition the Windows XP Pro SP2 install was corrupted. A little more info here.

PathFinder by Cocoa doesn’t seem to completely understand Spaces. I haven’t been able to open a different Pathfinder window in a different Space. When I drag one PathFinder browser window to a new Space the rest follow.

SnapZ Pro X by Ambrosia Software – I couldn’t check the selection to license it to all users of the Mac, only the current user. Under Tiger I had been able to license it to all Mac users.

Transmit 3.6.1 from Panic. I installed Transmit then set of .Mac syncing to get my favorites. I had to go into each favorite and set the password and root URL (in cases where a root URL was set). They had been lost in the process.
